Why You Must Ask A Leader, How He Will ACHIEVE?
By Richard Brody

Empty rhetoric and promises may get certain candidates elected, but rarely does this behavior ever transform to meaningful, effective difference? We often hear voters complain, after the fact, that someone who they voted for, did not fulfill his promises, yet, what is often overlooked (either because they are naive, or prefer to behave as if they were duped), is every voter, must feel responsible personally, to take a longer look, and delve deeply into what is being promised. A great leader must under-promise, and over-deliver, yet most politicians, proceed in the opposite way! Therefore, you should ask, how someone will ACHIEVE his promises. This should be even more obvious at the present time, because of the degree of hype and empty promises, going on during the present election cycle, especially by certain candidates!

1. Actions; activities; aims: What actions will you take, and how will you get things achieved? What activities might help get you where you want and need to be? If you could get everything you want, what would you aim to do, and why?

2. Clarity; cooperative: How clear is your message? How clearly do you visualize and understand what exists, and what needs to be? Will you be a polarizing or a unifying leader? How will you get those with different positions, prioritize cooperation, for the common good?

3. Heal; hope: Will you focus on healing wounds, or will you be someone who throws salt in those wounds? What are you willing to do, to heal, rather than polarize? Can you balance positive hope, with being realistic, rational, and creating a workable, action plan?

4. Intent; integrity; ideas: Are your intentions pure and in the best interest of those you serve, and will you transform a strategy to steps to get things done? Do you have the ability to introduce relevant ideas, or are you one those, whose best idea is the last, great idea, he heard someone else say? Above all, will you maintain absolute integrity, throughout everything you do, so you avoid over-promising, especially when you lack a plan of action?

5. Evolving; effective: Life is constantly evolving, so if you want to truly lead, you must be ready, willing and able to evolve constantly. Remain open to alternatives! If you are to achieve your objectives, it requires more than merely having a limited plan, but rather a fully-developed one, including contingency and back-up plans. Planning is only meaningful, when is well-considered, and effective.

6. Vibrant, vital vision: What energy will you bring forth, to energize others to rally around your visions? Have you considered the relationship between your vision, the group's mission, and how society, and your group, has evolved?

7. Enhance; empower; excite; enthuse: Never settle for good-enough! Enhance your planning, in a relevant, sustainable manner. Empower those you lead, to develop a bond with your organization, and to feel empowered to be part of something important! Be realistic, but seek to excite others! Remember, your enthusiasm, or lack thereof, often is contagious, and determines how others feel, and behave!

If you hope to select the right person to lead, you must ask the right questions, and listen carefully and closely to what they plan to do. Differentiate between promises/rhetoric, and a quality action plan, and get to understand how someone will ACHIEVE his stated vision.
